Dusk and Dawn

Morning without her is a dwindled dawn.

Betwixt sunset and dawn is a mystical place

where the warrior’s path shows its truest face

The worst hot dog I have ever not eaten was served to me in Fillmore, Utah.  Otherwise it’s a lovely place.

Utah is Stunning

Seems like the background from a Western Movie.

Zion Canyon ~ Utah

Because, you know, you’re in Utah.  And because of its conservatism, if you can make it there, you can make it almost anywhere.

Zion Canyon is a long way from Orange County in Southern California, actually about 450 miles across California, Nevada, Arizona and into Utah.

But this National Park has some of the most spectacular scenery in the Western United States, with red cliffs all around the narrow Virgin River.

We stayed in Springdale, which was pretty nice.  However, we were only there for a day and a half, which is nowhere near long enough to appreciate the wonders of this National Park.  We had another three days of travel to make it into Wyoming, to witness the total eclipse of the sun, but that post’s for another day.

Fillmore Utah and Jet Lag

Not the smallest place I went to in the USA; Fillmore has a population of 2,253.  It also boasts the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to.

Fillmore also has the best stars, or was that Rock Springs, or Riverton?  Worst Hotel in the world in Riverton, (or so the girl riding shotgun said, when she made us move).

Or that could have been any town in Utah.

Very religious people in Fillmore, and most of Utah.

Me, I don’t don’t really do religion.

And, I hate Las Vegas.

No sex there either.

an unexpected purchase

In August I will be taking a long vacation in the USA to witness the forthcoming total eclipse of the sun, which happens on August 21st.

For various reasons I will be flying out to John Wayne Airport, in Orange County, California ~ and then taking a long, long road trip from Orange County to Jackson Wyoming.  It’s about 1,000 miles through California, Nevada, and Utah to get to Jackson Wyoming.  I’ll be driving a Mustang convertible.

Ergo, I’ve just bought myself a Sat-Nav, or Satellite Navigation device, or GPS ~ depending on which version of English you use.  And you know what?  I swore I would never use an in-car sat-nav / GPS.

But, America is a big place and I have no desire to get lost in the wilds of Utah.

So there you go, amazingly you can buy a USA maps sat-nav / GPS from Amazon in the UK for less than $100.

Just to be safe, I’ll also be buying a paper map ~ and a new camera.
