Tunes on Tuesday ~ Danger Zone

I feel the need… the need for speed

Following my post Blinding Lights earlier today, I thought that we would all like to see this classic Kenny Loggins track from the movie Top Gun.

Well, it makes me smile, and smiles are in short supply right now.

Tunes on Tuesday ~ Blinding Lights

my ego was writing checks my body couldn’t cash

This track and video from ‘The Weekend’ turned up utterly at random after I’d cleaned all the cookies and browsing history from my computer.  You know what?  I like it a lot, especially the girls’ vintage-looking white shoes.  Very Top Gun.

And perhaps the aircraft are Hellcats ~ let me know if I’m wrong.

BTW, in my current weakened state I didn’t manage much of a dance routine.

c’mon….. it’s still July

and you guys aren’t in lockdown

Songs on Saturday ~ Dock of the Bay

When you’re locked inside the outside seems wonderful

I’d like to be sitting on the dock of the bay, but I’ll be in self-isolation for another 8 days.

Please listen with sympathy.

Songs on Saturday ~ American Tune

hello America, how are you?

In these dark and somber days, when nothing seems to be going quite to plan, I thought this Paul Simon song might be appropriate for the holiday weekend.  Of course we English do not celebrate the fourth of July at all.  Some of us still think you were wrong.

Please listen with a little pride in your nation.

But, be realistic about Life in America today.

y’all have a nice day

Songs on Saturday ~ Adiemus

in bad Latin adiemus means ‘let us approach’

Just for once I was listening to my Walkman yesterday as I strolled by the sea.  This Enya song inspired me to enjoy my perambulations a little more.

The music was once used on a Delta Airlines commercial.  It seems that not all adverts are tasteless.

Serenity, Peacefulness, Inspirational.

Listen with happiness.

Tunes on Tuesday ~ Here Comes the Sun

here in England summer has finally arrived

There are lots of jokes about the English summer, but let me tell you, when we do get some good weather this Sceptered Isle really is a jewel set in a silver sea.  This Beatles song perfectly captures my mood today.

Some say that the Rolling Stones were a better band than the Beatles ~ you had to be rather too fond of illicit sex and drugs to believe that.

Tunes on Tuesday ~ Slave to Love

love does not dominate; it cultivates

Forget Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, back in the day Bryan Ferry was the epitome of cool.  I like this song and I think this video is damn cool too.

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.

it’s really sad when love goes bad

Songs on Saturday ~ She Cries Your Name

don’t ever cry over someone you used to love

This Beth Orton song and video is dedicated to all the girls and women who once thought they were far too good for me.  Tough.  Who’s a very cool guy living an idyllic life now?  I know that I have everything I could wish for, despite this being Lockdown Day 460 and the world going to hell in a handcart.

It’s never a good idea to get caught cheating, especially not on camera.  But then, only very stupid people become adulterers.

Songs on Saturday ~ Don’t You Forget About Me

and don’t you throw, those spears, at me

If you have ambitions as a mimic then that’s one of the two Michael Caine lines you need to practice ~ which has nothing whatsoever to do with this cool song and great 80’s movie clips.  Zulu came out in 1964, and I bet that today’s woke film producers wouldn’t make that picture.

I must have gone to the cinema a lot in the 80’s because I can remember every single one of the clips in this mashup.

Of course you also have to learn to do an Aussi accent if you want to say; ‘that’s not a knife…. that’s a knife….’

You know what, people tend not to forget about me.

Zulus, thousands of ’em

Tunes on Tuesday ~ Big River

I might be broke, but the fog on the Tyne is all mine

Not many Americans will have a clue who Jimmy Nail was, nor the character he used to play in a TV series they’ve never seen.  Auf Wiedersehen, Pet was compulsive viewing when there really were dole queues in England.  Bits of Newcastle still look like the monochrome scenes in the video clip.

Please listen with some nostalgia for better times.
