Insomnia turns an earthly paradise into a place of torture.
If you don’t fall asleep within 20 minutes of getting into bed and turning off the lights, if you toss and turn and wake up several times in the night, if you don’t wake up feeling instantly refreshed and ready to hit the ground running, then you are not getting enough good sleep.
Scientific studies show that for good health almost everyone needs 7 or 8 hours of good sleep, every single night of their adult lives. Not getting enough good sleep does really bad things to you.
Just some of the bad effects of lack of sleep are; depression, diabetes, fatigue, heart diseases, heart attack, high blood pressure, poor immune system leading to illness, impulsive behaviours, irritability, paranoia, stroke, suicidal thoughts, and Death.
All of us know exactly that some of the things some of us do from time to time will prevent us from sleeping well at night; not getting enough fresh air and exercise during the day, drinking too much booze, eating late at night, using social media late at night, not going to bed at the same time every night, staying in bed late at weekends, having unresolved issues that prey on our mind, having an untreated mental illness, having our bedroom too warm, too noisy, and not dark enough, being in a dysfunctional relationship, hanging out in bars, casual sex…..

Some things that most of us do will disrupt our internal body clock, our circadian rhythm, and prevent us from getting a decent night’s sleep, for night after night after night. Who knew that our internal body clock is so important to good sleep and good health? If you do stuff that
fucks up disrupts your internal body clock, resulting in a lack of good sleep, you will seriously damage your physical, mental, and spiritual health and fitness.
All the things that will help ensure that we will always have a good night’s sleep are so
bleeding obvious that a child of 5, or 6, or 7 already knows them, instinctively.
- Stick to a sleep schedule. Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, including weekends and vacations.
- Get plenty of fresh air and exercise. Get out and walk for an hour a day, (10,000 steps), but not too late in the day.
- Get plenty of sunlight during the day ~ tricky if you live in northern England like me, (or Canada, or Alaska, or Scandinavia…).
- Avoid caffeine later in the day. It’s a stimulant, and the caffeine in a cup of coffee will take about 6 or 8 hours to wear off.
- Do not smoke. Nicotine is a stimulant, smoking affects your breathing, you will get nicotine withdrawal through the night and wake up, you will have nightmares for years after you stop smoking. Smokers never sleep well.
- Booze. Don’t drink to much, especially late at night. A glass of wine / hard booze just before you go to bed will stop you from getting a decent night’s rest. Trust me, people who drink late at night, most nights, are three parts of the
smeggingway to being an alcoholic.
- Do not eat late at night. Don’t eat anything much for a couple of hours before bed-time.
- Don’t take a nap after three in the afternoon.
- Have a relaxing hot bath just before bed-time. Light some candles, play some relaxing music, turn off your racing mind.
- Have a dark bedroom, quiet bedroom, cool bedroom, gadget free bedroom, and no
fuckingblue light from your phone / tablet / computer shining all night.
- Forget all the bad things from the day, especially the ignorant
son of a bitchperson who cut you up on the freeway on your way to work.
- Finally, if you just cannot get to sleep, then don’t just lie in bed fretting. If you really cannot sleep, get up and do something else instead, (but none of the bad things listed above).
One thing that some doctors say will result in a restored sleep cycle and better sleep is using marijuana, pot, cannabis. There are some serious downside risks to the cannabis user, such as; anxiety, breathing problems, poor coordination, damaging a child in the womb, hallucinations, heart attacks, impaired thinking and cognitive functions, nausea, road traffic accidents, smoking anything is a known health risk, suicide, paranoia and schizophrenia, being arrested, losing your job, and Death. All other drugs you can take to help you sleep are worse than marijuana, especially in the longer term. (Anyhow, I would never sleep with anyone who uses drugs. Come to that, I wouldn’t have lunch with a drug user.)
Some say that going without sleep for night after night is dangerous. And, that eventually going without sleep will kill you, after 11 days or so. All I know is that not sleeping is very, very unpleasant.

Marijuana is addictive. Marijuana eases pain.
Among all the alternative truths, fake news, denial, and propaganda aimed at the legalisation of cannabis / pot / marijuana are a couple of recent reports by ‘real scientists and doctors’ which clearly show that marijuana is quite likely to ruin your health, destroy your quality of life, and quite possibly kill you.
The first report compiled by the National Inpatient Study in the USA shows that marijuana use significantly increases your risk of suffering a stroke and / or heart failure, as well as exacerbating some other factors known to increase significantly cardiovascular disease including; obesity, alcoholism, high blood pressure, and smoking tobacco.
Meanwhile, a report by the Institute of Living in Connecticut, clearly shows that marijuana use makes young people stupid ~ especially when combined with booze. Of the people I know who use marijuana, ALL of them are also heavy drinkers, bordering on alcoholism. Honestly, I do not ever want to be around anyone who uses this stupid drug for recreational reasons.
Also in the USA, Narconon states that marijuana use significantly increases the risk of road traffic accidents, accidents in the home and workplace, psychosis, and schizophrenia. In fact, the chances are than anyone you know who suffers from schizophrenia has been a heavy user of marijuana at some time in their lives.
It’s well know that marijuana makes people have mental time and space distortions, poor coordination, impaired communication skills, difficulty in thinking and problem solving, and terrible cognitive skills. The effects of the drug can last up to four weeks, so anyone who has used marijuana in the last four weeks shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the need to make important decisions. Anyone who has made an important decision within four weeks of using cannabis should seriously think again.
Despite what the proponents of marijuana use might say, marijuana is addictive. One in 11 people who smoke cannabis will become addicted, rising to one in six if marijuana use starts in adolescence. However, addiction is a complex problem, with multiple addictions being the most common way that lives are destroyed. Any regular user of marijuana probably also drinks, smokes tobacco, gambles, binge eats, and is most likely addicted to all of those life-destroying habits and more. There is a strong chance that anyone with multiple addictions / an addictive personality, is also suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder, and should seek immediate medical treatment. (This is unlikely because most who are addicted, or suffer from borderline personality disorder, will be in the last stages of denial.)
Other downsides of cannabis use; it stinks worse than tobacco, causes lung cancer and other cancers just like tobacco, can cost you a fortune, and used anywhere that it’s illegal or against workplace regulations can land you in serious trouble. Using marijuana isn’t cool in any way, shape, or form, because it makes you talk and act like a deranged fool.
However, in the USA this addictive drug is now legal for recreational use in; Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Washington DC ~ mostly left-leaning Democrat states. Cannabis is still illegal in Great Britain, but the police take so little notice that you’d have to be growing and selling the stuff in industrial quantities to get into any trouble from the law. Urban left-leaning liberals are very keen to have pot legalised in the United Kingdom ~ the fools.
There is some strong evidence that the medicinal use of marijuana can alleviate the symptoms of some very nasty diseases, mostly reducing nausea and pain, but the medical effects have not been properly tested in the way that a new, mainstream drug would be tested before being allowed anywhere near patients.
Using marijuana is incredibly stupid. Personally, I think you would have to be seriously loose of a few screws in the brain to go anywhere near this noxious weed. Personally, I have enough problems without ever going anywhere near cannabis or a cannabis user. Unless I was in severe pain, and the weed was the only way I could get through the day.

A friend is concerned about the damage she may have suffered from passive smoking. So;
Cigarette smoke has long been established as the single most important cause of preventable disease and death in the world. The reduction in life expectancy for the average smoker is eight years. Across the world smoking cigarettes kills six million people a year, (every year 480,000 smoking related deaths in the USA alone) ~ every ten seconds somebody dies from smoking cigarettes.
Half of all smokers will eventually die from it, often from cancer. Of that half, half will die in middle age, losing around 25 years off their life. All smoking related deaths are messy, drawn-out and agonising to suffer and to watch.
Cigarette smoke is the cause of 90% of all lung cancers and chronic lung diseases. And you know what? Passive smoking also kills. You are quite likely to get lung cancer or lung disease just by being in the same room as a smoker. Worldwide at least 600,000 non smokers, (who are passively smoking), die from smoking related disease every year, and 28% of those are children. There is no safe level of second-hand tobacco smoke. If someone is ill-mannered enough to smoke near you, get up and leave. Only
sluts and bastards very impolite people smoke near non-smokers.
As well as directly causing chronic lung diseases like emphysema, bronchitis, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, (COPD). Cigarette smoke also causes strokes, a stack of heart related diseases, and cancers of just about every part of the body; mouth, larynx, oesophagus, stomach, urinary tract, and bladder.
Women suffer disproportionately badly from smoking related illnesses. For example there is a higher incidence of osteoporosis, (thinning of the bones), in female smokers. Smoking reduces female fertility and maims seriously damages unborn children in the womb. Female smokers also look decrepit age well before their time, have greater risk of breast cancer, and cancer of the cervix. Women who smoke heavily are often alcoholics also tend to drink far too much booze for their own good. The Baylor College of Medicine found that people crave alcohol when they are smoking, and nicotine when they are drinking. Both nicotine and alcohol are far more dangerous for women than they are for men.
There are about 2,700 nasty and dangerous chemicals in cigarette smoke, including; ammonia, cyanhydric acid, acetone, toluene, methane, naphthalene, carbon monoxide, phenol, DDT, Toluidine, Urethane, Pyrene, Polonium-210, cadmium, vinyl chloride, benzopyrene and nicotine. Some of this stuff is deadly even in small concentrations, and most of it is carcinogenic.
A regular smoker probably has no idea just how utterly disgusting non-smokers find your habit. Smokers stink, their clothes stink, their breath stinks, even their sweat stinks. In my whole life I have only dated one woman who smoked, and thankfully for both of us she eventually quit her filthy habit.
I would never, ever, date another woman who smokes, no matter how attractive she was otherwise. Personally, and luckily, I have never smoked anything, even though both my parents were smokers ~ thank you for that mother. My only very nasty, and very deadly vice has been booze, and I’ve quit drinking.
It is never too late to stop smoking ~ if you stop before middle age you will likely avoid most of the cancers, although if you continue smoking after middle age, and then stop, you will probably still die from your history of smoking. There is plenty of help out there for those addicted to smoking, but who want to quit. Probably the first step is to see your doctor. Or, like many old-looking, penniless, coughing, ill, sad, and stinking people, you could just decide to stay alive and stop smoking, all on your own.
