Despite what some would like to believe, beer is just as bad for you as any other alcohol, and depending how much of the brown falling-down-water you drink, beer is possibly worse that your other regular tipples. All booze has some very deleterious effects on your health, and the more your regularly drink the faster these bad things will happen to you.
Alcohol causes accidents in the home, on the road, and everywhere else you might find yourself after one too many drinks. Most people who commit suicide have been drinking heavily. Booze is also the direct cause of heart failure and other cardiovascular diseases, liver failure, fatty liver, hepatitis, and cirrhosis, sundry gastrointestinal disorders, pneumonia and other respiratory tract diseases, various cancers, pancreatitis, and diseases of malnutrition such as Wernicke’s encephalopathy, Korsakoff’s psychosis, amblyopia, and polyneuropathy. Without treatment you could die from all of these alcohol related dangers. Even with treatment some of the above will still kill you. If you don’t stop drinking, then you will die, horribly and before your time, from one or more of the nasty alcohol related killer diseases.
But, isn’t drinking beer safer? Isn’t it OK to have a few beers, every now and again.
Mostly, the answer to those questions is no. In a healthy adult, moderate drinking doesn’t cause too much damage, and by moderate I mean 1 pint of beer a day, or one standard size glass of wine a day ~ any more than that is quite damaging to your health. And you can’t save up your weekly quota and safely drink it all at the weekend either. Nor can you stay sober for a month and then get good and drunk to make up for all that boring sobriety ~ try that and you’ll most likely end up in vomiting your guts up, or in hospital, or dead.
So what about only ever drinking beer? Beer is made from water, a grain such as wheat or barley, and is usually flavoured with hops. Beer is usually between 4% and 12% alcohol by volume, (ABV). Your liver will take 1 hour to process a bottle of a weaker beer, and maybe 3 hours to process a pint of strong beer. While your liver is processing alcohol it isn’t doing anything else.
In comparison, wine usually has an ABV of 10% to 18%. Drinking an average size glass of wine is the equivalent of drinking a pint of strong beer. The ABV of spirits varies from between 35% to 60%, (sometimes more). A standard measure of spirits, (one shot), is about equivalent to drinking a bottle of strong beer.
The reasons beer is so bad for you is that there’s a lot of it by sheer quantity, which puts strain on your kidneys dealing with all that urine. Beer is full of grains which are packed with gluten and generally very bad for your digestion, there’s lots of calories in beer, and it’s got hops in it which is a soporific and also promotes the creation of estrogen in the body. Why do you think most beer drinkers are fat, have overhanging bellies, and guys who drink a lot of beer get man-boobs? Beer will kill you just as fast as any other alcohol, and it will make you very unattractive in the process.
Some say that beer is good for you. And that real men always have a few beers when they meet with the guys, or have a BBQ, or watch sports TV….. All I know is that people who drink beer become fat and unattractive, and then they die, before their time.

You know what? It turns out that beer is very bad for you. Too much beer will make you bloated, fat, and stupid. More beer than that will kill you.
How much is too much? If you are who I think you are, then one beer is one too many for you.

Friends, fun, beer, and BBQ ~ it’s what summer’s all about.
When you read this I’ll probably be in the air, somewhere over the Atlantic ocean, but I’m looking forward to sampling food like this when I eventually arrive at my various destinations in the USA; Orange County, Phoenix, Sedona, Flagstaff in AZ, and probably LA and San Diego Counties too.
From my Californian friends I know that it’s already BBQ season over there, so here’s an essential accompaniment to any grill, a potato salad. Except from Tieghan Gerard at Half Baked Harvest, here we have a wonderful looking pesto potato salad.

Talking of a dill salad, from Julia Moskin at the New York Times, we have this soft herb salad, which just cries out for whatever fresh greens you have growing in your garden. This will go great with any BBQ’d salmon dish.

If I was still a drinking man I’d quaff a few tinnies of this stuff. IPA stands for India Pale Ale ~ Asian Indians, not the American kind.

Wheat is routinely sprayed with a chemical that will give you cancer.
Glyphosate is legally classified as a carcinogen, and glyphosate is the main active ingredient of a weedkiller called Roundup. A federal jury in California found that Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide was a substantial factor in causing Edwin Hardeman’s non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Monsanto, which is owned by the German chemicals company Bayer, is facing more than 9,000 similar lawsuits. We all know that German chemicals companies have a very dark history. In recent times the evil corporation Monsanto / Bayer has bullied scientists, suppressed evidence, and hid the cancer risks arising from Roundup / Glyphosate.
Even the US Environmental Protection Agency is not immune to collusion with Monsanto ~ the EPA lied when they stated that glyphosate is probably not carcinogenic to humans. Monsanto knowingly lies when they say that Glyphosate has excellent environmental features….. and extremely low toxicity to mammals, birds, and fish. Roundup was introduced in 1974, is used in 130 countries, to control weeds and improve the yield of more than 100 crops. Every damn year in the USA, over 300 million pounds, (150,000 tons), of Roundup are sprayed on the crops you eat, especially wheat corn, soya, and canola, (from which we get the shit called canola oil).

That means that a hell of a lot of the everyday products you eat and drink are contaminated with a deadly, carcinogenic poisonous chemical. Eating bread, cakes, cookies, anything with flour in it, anything with high fructose corn syrup in it, drinking beer with grains in it, using canola oil, are all seriously damaging your health. Eat bread, drink beer, and be ill before you die sooner than you should.
There are more damn good reason that you shouldn’t eat bread; gluten sensitivity, wheat allergy, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, and heart disease. Bread is not the staff of life, bread is a killer food.
High fructose corn syrup will also kill you though; heart disease, obesity, cancer, dementia, liver failure, fatty liver, bad teeth….. And, the average American consumes more than 60 pounds of this shit every damn year. High Fructose Corn Syrup, and Cane Sugar are not the same thing, and the body handles them differently ~ cane sugar is safer, but more expensive.
Some pray, and give us our daily bread. And some say that Roundup is completely safe to fish, birds, animals, and humans. All I know is that I won’t eat shit.

Be fit and healthy ~ stop eating wheat
This is not about food, this is all about money. Wheat has been all about money since the dawn of agriculture in about 9,500 BC. In fact for a long, long time wheat and bread took the place of money, being both a store of value and a medium of exchange. The builders of the pyramids were paid in bread and beer, both by-products of wheat. Every American consumes about 55 pounds of wheat flour every year, and this consumptions pays for the powerful business and political empires that go along with modern agriculture.
Modern wheat is very bad for you, and so are wheat products; flour, bread, cakes, cookies, biscuits, pasta, noodles, tortilla, wraps, pizza, pancakes, flapjacks, doughnuts, soups, beer… The wheat and it’s products that we eat now is the end result of genetic research and long way from the simple 14 chromosome Einkorn wheat plant we ate 10,000 years ago.
Wheat is basically the worst of the worst carbohydrates, and even a modest exposure to the starches in wheat is enough to increase the appetite, raise blood sugar, induce fat accumulation, initiate inflammatory processes, increase bad LDL cholesterol, and cause high blood pressure. Celiac Disease is described as far back as 100 AD, but wheat problems aren’t restricted to people with celiac disease.

Wheat is full carbohydrates and some very bad proteins; gluten, wheat germ agglutinin, and amylase trypsin inhibitors. These proteins irritate your gut, and cause inflammation and bloating. This irritation causes a problem called intestinal permeability which is a contributory factor in autoimmune diseases. Wheat germ agglutinin exacerbates this leaky-gut problem which allows all kinds of nasty things into your blood. The gluten in wheat also messes with the friendly bacteria in your gut. All of this makes you prone to obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, infectious diseases, along with diarrhea and or constipation, heartburn, bloating, farting, and other gut problems. Wheat is also a contributory factor in brain fog, depression, Alzheimer’s Disease, schizophrenia, autism, and other mental health problems. For good measure the gluten in wheat will mess with your skin making you feel itchy and leading to eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. The thing is, everyone is gluten intolerant to a greater or lesser degree.
Wheat makes you fat.
- The super starch amylopectin A in genetically modified dwarf wheat that makes great bread and cakes will spike your blood sugar just as much as eating pure refined sugar. There is no difference between whole wheat and refined white flour, both are equally as bad.
- Dwarf wheat gluten has twice as many chromosomes as the gluten protein found in ancient wheat plants, as well as a lot more gluten in general. This gluten will make you sick and fat.
- Dwarf wheat contains a super drug which will make you crazy, hungry, and addicted. Your body turns the proteins in wheat into polypeptides called exorphins, which are exactly similar to the endorphins you get from a runners’ high, which are exactly similar to opioids. People will binge on cakes and cookies because of this super drug, but people never binge on broccoli.
So why do we eat wheat and other grains? One reason is that wheat and other high carbohydrate grains are addictive. The other reason is that we are all subjected to endless propaganda encouraging us to consume more and more of these nasty foods. From the tempting counter displays in supermarkets to pronouncements by official bodies like the US Food and Drug Administration, and the Food Standards Agency in the United Kingdom we are constantly encouraged to consume wheat, barley, oats, rice.. all of which are bad.
There is another reason wheat has become highly toxic in recent years. It is common practice in the USA, Canada, and Europe to drench wheat and barley fields with a herbicide called Roundup a few days before the combine harvesters start work. Killing and desiccating the grain plants like this allows an earlier, easier, and more efficient harvest. Roundup contains the deadly chemical glyphosphate, and it’s residue in wheat and barley also kills the good bacteria and contributes to leaky-gut syndrome.
Roundup is made by the giant chemicals company Monsanto. Monsanto is set to merge with the Giant German chemicals company Bayer. No politician or regulator is going to want to annoy Monsanto or Bayer. It is all about money. The production and consumption of wheat and other grains has nothing whatsoever to do with good food, it’s all about money.
Do yourself a favour and avoid wasting money due to ill-health, stop eating wheat and it’s products for six weeks. Then see just how much fitter, healthier, and more alert you feel. I gave up wheat on the 9th of June this year, and today I feel so much better than I could have ever believed.
