The Power of Truth

Most of the world is built on lies.

Almost every relationship, of whatever kind, builds upon one more deception, constructed on another falsehood, built on another lie.  Questions lie unasked, and asked questions are never answered.  Lying by omission, deception, secrecy, underhandedness, and guile are all commonplace.

Everybody lies…  every day, every hour, awake, asleep, in his dreams, in his joy, in his mourning.  If he keeps his tongue still, then his hands, his feet, his attitude will convey deception.  ~  Mark Twain

Until the evening of May 24th this year, I was just as guilty of that artful web of deceit and duplicity of was any other person on this planet.

And Why?

Lying is easy, deception avoids difficult questions, misrepresentation covers up past mistakes…

In the end, the truth will come out.

Being completely honest and truthful with myself was a giant leap for me.  Being totally open and honest with others is a small step by comparison.  As long as one remembers that the unvarnished truth can sometimes hurt.

But, I caution you as one who has suffered for most of his life from a disregard for truth, never, ever, lie to yourself.  Self-deception is the bitter seed of one’s own destruction.

This above all ~ to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as night follows day, thou canst not then be false to any man.  ~  Shakespeare

I know, from terrible experience, that you may be hurt by the truth, but it’s better than living with a lie ~ especially if you were lying to yourself.

Just as a soft answer turns away wrath, the truth always has the power to uncover and turn away falsehoods.  Self knowledge and complete honesty with oneself is a very liberating experience ~ perhaps some salesmen, politicians, public officials, businessmen, and lovers should try it some time.  Clinton and Trump?  Not a chance.

The Truth is Power.  And, the truth is out there.

    1. Thank you Sweetheart. I am only beginning to realise the tranquility that being completely honest with myself brings. My soul is starting to feel those calmer waters.

      1. It’s a difficult and exquisite path. Kudos to you for taking those steps. I’ll look forward to reading what rises from this new spring. 🙂

  2. Jack says in the movie: “You can’t handle the truth!”: Will the truth set us free? (Case in point just this week: Baylor University… Ouch!) Thanks, Jack.
