Food on Friday # 27 ~ California

For this Food on Friday it’s either recipes from California Cooks, or recipes for things I know they eat, (drink), in sunny California.  (And, that’s pretty easy, because I know that in SoCal they will eat just about anything, and drink absolutely anything….)

Elise at Simply Recipes has her kitchen in Carmichael, Sacremento County, and has a great skillet shrimp and asparagus recipe for you to try.  I know my friend in Orange County will like this dish, especially as it only takes 30 minutes and she can use a shed-load of garlic.

California girl Chungah Rhee at Damn Delicious has these damn delicious looking southwestern egg rolls with cilantro avocado sauce.  Cilantro, (coriander), and avocado are ingredients I know they are big on in Southern California, my SoCal friend is always going on about cilantro, and avocado, and garlic if it comes to that.

Also from Damn Delicious I loke the look of this cilantro lime chicken, (coriander for goodness sake).

From SoCal, the lovely Aveire Sunshine at Averie Cooks there’s this recipe for buffalo chicken burrito bowls… I should really know what a burrito is ~ I not even certain I know what buffalo chicken is. ha ha ha

I don’t know what an Enchilada is either, and Kate is now a Kansas Ciy girl.  But, from Cookie + kate we have how to make perfect enchilada sauce.

I know what tacos are, because they sell them here in England.  So, from Wine Country, Anne at Tasting Everything gives you the best chicken taco recipe (with mango salsa and homemade tortillas).

Heather Christo has a nifty taco recipe with something I know they grow in California, blood oranges.  So, blood orange honey ginger glazed pork tacos look pretty good.

Tieghan Gerard at Half Baked Harvest is also doing tacos.  This time corned beef tacos with beer battered fries ~ well now, battered fries, (we call them chips), are a new one on me.  (And, Californians would not believe what the English use for corned beef ~ for a start it comes in a can.)

They do like going out for their pizza in California, but here is something different and easy to make at home. From Andrea at Cooking with a Wallflower, margherita French bread pizza.

This recipe from Petra at Food Eat Love is in here just because I believe my lovely friend in Orange ounty would like crab and avocado roll in lobster and crab broth.

Now, and finally, from Jane’s Italian Kitchen we have how to make perfect crispy bacon without the mess.  I’ve seen what passes for bacon in California, and trust me, they can use all the help they can get.

What do Californians drink with their food?  Judging by what I’ve seen on my road trips out there, a Californian will drink anything with alcohol in it when they’re eating.  Beer, saki, tequila, wiskey, wine…. but they will also have my favourite drink along with food ~ water…  For something a little different, Haether Christo has a nifty rose and tarragon gin lemonade.  (This may not be a good idea, some ladies can get tearful after drinking gin, and tarragon is an aphrodisiac ~ honest.)

A big thank you to all the great cooks featured in this week’s Food on Friday.  I hope to be back in California very soon.
